Crime rate is increasing

Another young child wassexually ravaged and murdered leavingher grief-stricken parents crying for justice.Preeshena Varshiny, 9, was believed tohave been raped, sodomised and throwndown from the balcony of one of theunits at the up-market Casa Mila TowerCondominium in Jalan Bukit Idaman 3/1,Selayang, on Thursday. Her body was found sprawled on theground by a security guard about 4pmon Thursday. She was clad in a blue T-shirt and shorts and the keys to hercondominium were found next to herbody. Her father who is a marketing andtechnical manager and her mother, whoworks in a human resource department,suspe ct that Preeshena was abductedfrom their unit on the ninth floor. Her 40-year-old father, who declinedto be named, said his daughter calledhim on Wednesday afternoon claimingsomeone was knocking loudly on thefront door. Preeshe na was alone at home. Her elderbrother was away at a boarding schoolwhile her younger sister was sent to ababy-sitter. "I told her not to open the door. Ireminded her that we have the keys tothe unit and we would open and letourselves in after work," he told theNew Straits Times at his condo lastnight.Her father's nightmare came true onThursday afternoon when he got a callfrom police. He rushed to thecondominium and saw his daughter'sbroken body. The parents suspect that Preeshena wasforcibly taken when she opened thedoor to the assailant on Thursday. "Sh e never leaves her house withouther slippers. Her slippers are stillhere."The condominium keys were also foundnext to her body." Preesh ena's mother looked dazed. "Her body looked peaceful. I am sureshe is in heaven. "I promised her that I will fight tillthe end to find her killer." Her mother said it was so sad thatthis had to happen right after NurinJazlin Jazimin's case. Preeshe na is a Year Three pupil ofSekolah Kebangsaan St Marie inSelayang. Neighbours described her asa bubbly and friendly child. The family stays in a posh, gatedcommunity with 24-hour security. Pol ice investigations revealed thatthe victim's condominium unit waslocked and there were no signs offorced entry. They were looking at the possibilitythat Preeshena was taken to a vacantunit on the second floor where she wasattacked and murdered. The back windowof the unit was open when policechecked the premises. The post-mortem report revealed shehad been raped and sodomised. Therewere bruises on her chest, back andprivate parts. Her right arm was also broken. The body, which was sent to the KualaLumpur Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem, was claimed at 1am yesterdayby her family and cremated at the CityHall crematorium in Jalan Kuari laterin the morning. Gomb ak police chief AssistantCommiss ioner Mohd Abdullah appealed tomembers of the public who haveinformation to assist the police. This is the most brutal child murdersince the Nurin case on Aug 20. In Nurin's case, she was held captivefor almost a month before her body wasstuffed in a sports bag and left atthe foot of a staircase at a buildingin PJS1/48. Eigh t-year-old Nurin, who went missingafter going to a night market near herhouse in Wangsa Maju, was alsosexually assaulted. To date, no onehas been charged for her murder.
